REVOLT

Growing up in Miami, in a Cuban American family, I experienced an entire culture from a mythic perspective. Cuba, when I was growing up, was ever present in the language, food and stories that my family passed on to me. Unfortunately all of those things where also tainted by the shadow of the countries deep rooted corruption. The revolution should have liberated the country but instead pushed a lot of its own people away.

Revolt was a very personal subject matter for me. I wanted to put Cuban history into a context easily accessible for non-immigrant and immigrants alike. One of the struggles I had, when designing this cookbook, was sticking with the very specific imagery that surrounded Cuba’s cultural revolution. I took inspiration from artists like Eduardo Munoz Bachs and Rene Mederos, mainly focusing on poster work from the mid-century in Cuba.
